How to find your HS code

1. Describe the product precisely: what it is, material, function and how it is used.
2. Find the 4-digit heading and 6-digit subheading in the WCO Harmonized System; the first 6 digits are the same worldwide.
3. Check the national code (8 to 10 digits) and its duty in the destination country tariff, for example the NCM in Brazil or the TIGIE in Mexico.
4. Confirm with a licensed customs broker; for doubtful cases ask customs for a binding ruling.

The supplier in China declares an export HS code; the importer is responsible for the import classification.
